How to Make a Tent Air Conditioner
Things You Will Require:
- 5 Gallon bucket
- Water pump
- Cooling pads
- Fan
- Hoose
- Battery
- Plumbing fittings
- Drill
- Ducting (Not mandatory)
Step-1:
After gathering all the necessary materials, your very first step should be filling the buckets that you have collected with 1.5 to 2 gallons of water and then marking the water level. After that, Use the drill for drilling holes above your marked water level. A 2.5-inch drill bit will be ideal for this. Here, the more holes you will make, the better it will be. But, make sure so that the structure does not become weak.
Step-2:
Then, your next task is fitting the cooling pads. Here, you have two options. Either you can go for an organic pad or a synthetic pad. It is better to go for the synthetic pad as it is easy to cut.
However, then cut the pad into 33.5″x13″ and close both ending parts of the pads using glue. After that, cut another pad into 24″x13″. Then roll the pad tight and keep it inside of the pads that you have cut earlier.
Step-3:
Now, use some tubing along with a T-connector and spike a few holes in every one to two inches without uniform dripping. Your tubing size depends on the size of your pump. So, make sure that you are bringing the accurate one.
Step-4:
Then, your next task is to install your water pump. You can go to a submersible pump too. Just make sure that the pump is 12V. It is not mandatory to bring a powerful pump. A pump that can feed plenty of water over the cooling pads for keeping it moist will be good enough to satisfy this purpose. In fact, the less power your pump will use, the better it will be.
Then, simply attach the hose and test it. You must pay heed so that your bucket seal the hose against the lid when you close the lid on your bucket. It will prevent the air from sucking over the top, bypass the pads that will result in no cooling.
Step-5:
After that, install your 12V fan. In this case, you can use your PC fan too. It depends on actually how much air you want. Keep it in your mind that the more powerful fan you will use, the more power it will consume. In this case, running the fan from the battery of your vehicle will be a good idea. You will be able to use a bigger fan.
Step-6:
In the final step, now you have to duct the air as you want. It is recommended to keep the cooler outside of the tent for the highest cooling effect. With this step, you are done with making your tent air conditioner.
In addition, it is important to know that the swamp cooler consumes a few amounts of water. Adding about a 1-liter of water will be good enough every couple of hours. You can run your air cooler continuously about for 2 days using your vehicle’s battery. Using a solar panel will make it more durable. So, power is not an issue at all.
