Zephyr 2 Tent Detailed Review
1# Weather Protection
Three-season trekking tents are what this one’s made to be used for. It’s made to withstand hot, humid summer nights as well as the downpour in the rainy season. More than half of the tents on the market employ the frame that this design comes with.
It’s a classic that’s been around for a long time. The 7000 Series Aluminum poles (8.5 mm) used in this tent are the best in the market. Stakes and guy lines are incorporated into the frame to ensure stability during big storms because they are specifically intended to resist all kinds of weather conditions.
This tent’s floor and rainfly have been seam-sealed at the factory. This backpacking tent doesn’t require any additional waterproofing because of this feature. The durable 75D 185T polyester rainfly (1500mm coating) will keep you dry during rain and protected you from the UV-ray. It’s impervious to both heavy rain and strong winds.
2# Great Ventilation
This tent is hugely appreciated for its dual mesh doors and entire mesh walls. One thing that is guaranteed with this tent is the proper flow of fresh air. It will keep the tent cool better than any other tent in its class. The fully mesh walls ensure that no condensation is collecting inside the tent.
The mesh roof serves another purpose besides ventilation and that is stargazing at night. You will be able to enjoy the night sky by comfortably lying inside the Zephyr 2 tent.
3# Two Doors
Having two doors in a tent is always a plus point. It is very important for convenient entry and exit when there are two people inside the tent. A dual door will ensure that you don’t disturb the other one when going out of the tent. Also, the doors are made of mesh so they will create a cross breeze to help with the ventilation.
4# Vestibule and Storage Pockets
This tent comes with two roomy vestibules to use on both sides. It gives you the flexibility to keep your large and extra gears outside the tent but still secure. The extra gear storage feature comes in handy from time to time.
The ALPS Mountaineering Zephyr 2 tent also has storage pockets and a gear loft for additional storage space. A storage pocket can prove to be very useful as it helps maintain your gears in order and prevents them from becoming disorganized.
The Zephyr 2 tent comes with attic storage which is a great feature as it serves multiple purposes. For example, you can store your gear in there or you can use it to dry your socks or clothes or you can use it for hanging a headlamp.
1# Not Enough Space
Though this tent is rated as a 2 person tent, the interior space doesn’t fully agree with that statement. The Zephyr 2 is perfect for one person, but it will be a squeeze for two adult persons to sleep in it comfortably. The ideal combination for this tent is one adult and one child or two adults who are very close or intimate with each other. That way you won’t feel uncomfortable.
2# Not Ultralight
The Zephyr 2 weighs around 5 lbs so we definitely can’t categorize this tent as an ultralight option. There is plenty of other 2 person tent that weighs way less than this one. So, the backpackers might feel it to be slightly heavy until they get used to it. The problem won’t arise when you travel with a partner as you can divide the weight two ways.
3# Not For Winter
We strongly recommend you to not consider the Zephyr 2 person tent for winter use. You will be highly disappointed. It has no system to protect you from the shivering cold.
- A good option for backpackers as it is lightweight
- Good for stargazing thanks to the mesh ceiling and walls
- Full coverage fly will withstand powerful winds
- Easy to set up
- Great weather protection
- Proper ventilation
- Dual doors, dual vestibules, and gear loft available
- Not suited for winter
- Perfect for one person but not two
Despite having some minor negative sides, the Zephyr 2 provides a good value for money. The bad sides that we mentioned are negligible as they are not major issues except maybe for the winter part. If you like to go camping during winter, then you should skip this one.
Otherwise, this tent deserves your attention considering every aspect. It will bring versatility and convenience to your backpacking journeys.
