ALPS Mountaineering brand was established by an enthusiastic outdoor gear designer Dennis Brune in 1993. Since then, their products have been at the center of customer satisfaction and innovation.

Their Lynx tent series is one of the best-selling products in the market and its popularity is growing day by day.

This 3-season tent is great for camping and backpacking as it is very lightweight and easy to set up. It is a rectangular-shaped tent (almost round) and has a freestanding design. You will get 53 sq. ft. of floor space and 48 inches of headroom in this tent.

It weighs a little higher than 7 lbs so carrying it won’t be much of a problem. It has a two-pole design and the poles are made of aluminum so they are sturdy. The Lynx 3 tent has a door on both sides and a vestibule for both doors for extra gear space.

Some other features include overhead gear loft, mesh storage pocket, 8 zippers, 2 windows, half mesh wall, 75D 185T poly taffeta floor with a 2000mm coating to make it waterproof and water and UV resistant fly.

Alps Mountaineering Lynx 3-person Tent Detailed Review

The Good

1# Sturdy Construction

One of the most important aspects of a tent is its ability to provide maximum comfort while enduring the harsh elements of the outdoors. ALPS Mountaineering Lynx 3-person tent excels in this area, thanks to a number of intriguing features.

Water and UV-resistant polyester fly makes this tent a great option to use on both sunny and rainy days. Due to its strong main-frame aluminum poles, this tent is extremely wind-resistant and stable.

2# Easy To Setup

The ALPS Mountaineering Lynx 3-person tent is easy to set up, even if you’ve never camped before. That’s crucial because if you have a tent that requires a lot of muscle and time to set up, things can only become worse.

For those who like easy things, this is the tent for you, as it requires virtually no setup.

As a freestanding tent, setup is quick and easy. Because it’s easy to assemble, you won’t have to worry about the shelter for the night if you arrive at the campsite after dark.

The Lynx’s two-pole structure sets it apart from other tent designs. Instead of using a sleeve or clip system, we prefer the grommet hole system this tent has. This system reduces the weight and hassle.

This tent should be easy to set up the first time, even without instructions or instructional videos. On the first try, most people can set up the tent in five to 10 minutes.

3# Comfortable Inside

As one of the roomier models we reviewed, the Lynx 3 tent from Alps Mountaineering will easily get an 8 out of 10. In terms of space, it is perfect for three people. But 2 people can live inside this tent with a lot of space available for additional gear.

Each of the tent’s two doors opens to reveal two small internal pockets, as well as a huge gear loft that can be detached. There are also adequate size vestibules available on this Lynx 3 tent.

4# Dual Doors and Vestibules

The Lynx 3 tent has two doors and two vestibules for convenient entry and exit. The vestibules provide lots of storage space and rain protection. Vestibules are great for storing extra gear and reducing clutter in the tent. When the weather is terrible, they can also be used as an antechamber to keep the tent warm.

You will get 20 sq. ft. of vestibule area on both sides of the tent and that’s a huge plus.

Doors on both sides mean you won’t have to step over your partner when you need to enter or exit the tent. Plus, they provide additional ventilation along with mesh windows, roof vents and half mesh walls.

During your stay in the tent, you’ll have easy access to your most-needed stuff thanks to the overhead gear loft and side mesh storage pockets.

The Bad

During our research, we didn’t stumble upon any major issues with this tent that might make you worry. There are some minor things that can be upgraded by the tent manufacturer to make it even better though. Like, the stakes included with this tent are not as robust as you want it to be. So, you might have to replace them to get better performance.

Besides that, fitting three adults in this tent might be a bit of a stretch even though this is a 3-person tent. Two adults and a child are the ideal combinations to have a comfortable sleep.

We can ignore those minor downsides if we consider the price.

Pros

  • Freestanding design
  • Easy to assemble
  • Plenty of interior space
  • Properly ventilated
  • Two vestibules will allow more storage space
  • 3 season tent
  • Lightweight
  • Affordable price

Cons

  • The stakes might need to be replaced for better performance
  • Not ideal for three adults

Verdict

It’s possible that some car camping enthusiasts or weekend campers would like a larger roof and more floor space, but the ALPS Mountaineering Lynx 3-person tent’s small size and efficient layout make it an excellent choice.

You can get it at an affordable price without compromising on quality. It has the potential to become your next favorite tent so you should definitely check it out.
